Climbing mountains and surfing in Lofoten

Summer Roadtrip in Norway

This summer, a friend and I went on a two-week road trip through Norway. We drove from Oslo all the way up towards Northern Norway, stopping at many different places along the way. Most nights we slept in a tent, although we also spent a few nights in a hammock. One of the biggest highlights was hiking to Galdhøpiggen, the highest mountain in Norway. We also took a surfing course in Flakstad in Lofoten, which was a completely different experience from hiking in the mountains. During the surf course we saw an orca!

Some of our favourite stops along the way were Andøya, Bodø, Henningsvær, Brønnøysund, Namsos, Mosjøen and Svartisen. We quickly became very used to travelling with a camping stove, which we used to cook most of our meals. It was surprisingly easy to make good food with very little equipment, and after a few days we had pretty much mastered the routine of finding a nice place to stop, setting up the stove and making dinner outside.

Though one of the most memorable parts of the trip happened after our surfing course in Flakstad. We got to know our surf instructor, who recommended that we visit Henningsvær. We followed his advice and ended up at Trevarefabrikken, a really cool local place right by the water. We sat outside in the sun with an amazing view of the ocean and the mountains of Lofoten. There was also a fun quiz that evening, where we met several friendly people from other countries who were travelling around Norway. Moments like that were what made the road trip so memorable. We never really knew what we would find at the next stop, which made the whole two weeks feel like one big adventure.
